The schedule for our upcoming Fall Dance Weekend is now posted on the website. We can all plan on some great dancing and workshops!

If you haven’t yet registered for the weekend, there’s still time. Registration is available on our website here, or you can fill out a paper registration form at any of our dances. In the event that the weekend doesn’t fill up, per-dance walk-in prices will be posted immediately before the weekend. Registering for the whole weekend will ensure you have a spot for everything!

On October 19th there will be a family dance in Pittsburgh! Parents are invited to bring their children and dance together with them. Please bring a snack to share.

The dance is at the Wilkins School Community Center, 7604 Charleston Ave, Swissvale, PA 15218

Sunday, October 19 from 4pm-6pm.

Admission is $5/person, $10/family of 2 or more.

Music is being provided by Contraption.

The October 3 dance is being sponsored by Cynthia and Barry in honor of their wedding. Admission will be free, so join us to celebrate their marriage and the joy of dancing!

As you may know, we have been conducting a community survey about how we can improve the Pittsburgh dance for all our attendees. We would like to share the results with you, with the intention of taking the first steps to respond to your suggestions.  Also, we are welcoming more volunteers to help “run” the dances, so we want to clarify how you can become an integral part of this nonprofit organization.

All are invited, (whether or not you sent in the survey,) to attend the following:

Potluck Brunch:  11 a.m. till Noon

Meeting:  Noon till 1:30 p.m.

Waltz Session: 2 to 4 p.m. at the Wilkins School, walking distance from Wayne and Gaye’s. (Donation for this waltz event is appreciated.)

Your attendance and input at this meeting is greatly appreciated!

We now have a group presence on Facebook and on Meetup.com.  If you use these sites, show your support by liking or joining Pittsburgh Contras and Squares groups.  This will help us get the word out, and help people plan attendance at dances, organize transportation, offer feedback, and more.

We have our bands and callers booked for Fall Dance Weekend 2014.  The weekend will be November 7-9, 2014. We will have The Mean Lids and Toppish playing.  Bev Bernbaum will be calling, as well as local favorites Gaye Fifer and Ron Buchanan. Mark your calendars, we look forward to seeing you on the dance floor!

2. One short-sleeved button shirt. (100% Cotton) Brand: “PD & C.” Color: brownish-gray with beige threading throughout. Size: men’s Large.

3. One lightweight pullover sweater with three buttons. (60% Cotton, 40% polyester) Brand: “Merona.” Color: black, with thin horizontal gray stripes. Size: men’s small

4. One pair of ladies’ black leggings. No label or size shown.

This Sunday, December 22nd, at 1 p.m., there will be a 2014 Pittsburgh Fall Dance Weekend Planning Meeting.  It will be held  at Panera Bread in Oakland (3401 Blvd. of the Allies). Anyone is welcome, your input is appreciated.

As you may have noticed there is now a section on the website giving the schedule for other contra dances in the local area. This schedule appears below the schedule for our Friday night dances on both the front page and the schedule page.  If you organize a contra dance (either repeating or one-time) that is local to Pittsburgh, let Bronwyn know and she can add it to this schedule.  This schedule is intended for contra and square dances that are easy for people in Pittsburgh to attend (within an hour or two of driving) and is not a complete list of dances in the larger area.
